Travelling to uni and missing lectures? March 21, 2012 at 5:40 am
Hey everyone. I travel 2 hours to get to uni, and I am in for 4 days a week. 2 of the days are very busy and full which I think is good because my whole day is taken up by classes and it’s worth the journey. However, the other two days are just for one-hour lectures. One of them is at 9am, meaning I have to get up at 5.30 to get the train. I’ve decided on alternating between those two days with the short lectures but going to all my seminars. I know that sounds really bad and as if I don’t care, but it’s just too expensive to be travelling up and down for a short lecture twice a week. I’m also in late the day before one of them and because of the long journey I don’t get home til quite late that night, and getting up at 5.30 the next morning is tough going. We get registered in seminars but because the course is so big and popular, there are a lot of students so attendance isn’t taken in lectures or anything. Last week, out of the few hundred students who do this course, there were only about 40 or 50 who turned up. As well as going to university I work at weekends and teach music one night a week, but most of my money goes on travelling. I have a student loan also, but similarly it doesn’t stretch too far. I can’t really afford to move into student accommodation at the moment, because of money and other things. All the travelling is making me tired and costing me a lot of money. I don’t know if it’s worth feeling so bad over when I may feel even worse attending all of the lectures and causing myself to become really tired and stuff. Not meaning to sound really cocky lol, but I am a good student who is conscientious and hardworking. In school my attendance was great, but I only had to travel 10 mins up the road :S My mom fully agrees that I should just skip some lectures, as I’m not doing it out of laziness, and if the lectures are online then I wouldn’t be missing a huge amount. I still feel guilty though, I’m paying for tuition after all :/ It’s getting to me a bit, I don’t like missing class…how geeky
Thanks in advance for advice
So what’s the question
you knew before you started what the travelling time would be
so why did you choose the course and the location
